MGM National Harbor – Video / Renderings

MGM Casino National Harbor

This is a beautiful project, well conceptualized for the topography of the site and location. The view of the structure from I-95 will be powerful and dramatic. What a great architectural addition to Prince Georges County!

MGM National Harbor offers a sophisticated architectural approach that addresses the local area’s significant geographical and cultural history. The design is influenced by the natural topography of the dynamic Maryland site, the iconic nature of nearby national monuments, and their interactions with residents and visitors in this vibrant travel corridor. The piercing verticality of the streamlined high-rise hotel rises from a resort pedestal and is precisely positioned to maximize sightlines to Washington, D.C. and the Maryland countryside.

Norman Foster On Designing Apple’s $5 Billion “Spaceship” Campus | Co.Design | business + design

Norman Foster On Designing Apple’s Billion

Apple is building an amazing new campus with Norman Foster that is estimated to cost $5 billion–a billion dollars more than the new World Trade Center complex. That is due to an Apple-like attention to detail: 3.7 miles of curved glass will wrap around the building, concrete ceilings will be carefully cast then lifted into place, museum-grade stone-infused flooring will replace standard concrete, and most infamously, gaps between surfaces promise not to exceed 1/32 of an inch (vs. the U.S. build standard of 1/8 of an inch).

Apart from its primary function as a football stadium, the building’s horseshoe design opens the grounds out onto an inner city lake located just outside, which makes it perfect for concerts, parties, and other outdoor events. The opening also provides ample air flow into the stadium, which when combined with the building’s horizontal shading elements, reduces the amount of energy wasted on air conditioning.

Distinct Villa by the Sea Floating on Green Surroundings

Distinct Villa by the Sea Floating on Green Surroundings

Scandinavian based international architecture studio Lars Gitz Architects imagined and built a contemporary home overlooking the sea. Uniquely designed to serve the owners peace and comfort, this impressive villa by the sea in Aalsgaarde, Denmark, rests in the middle of a green lawn. Capturing panoramas of the sparkling water from behind glass walls, the residence known as Villa From spreads over 390 square meters. A taller volume with two floors was designed to become a seamless space from where the panoramic view can be enjoyed whether you’re working in the open office space or taking a long, well-deserved bath. In all the wings of the house, the internal organization of spaces proves an honest opening towards the surroundings and a visual communication between different spaces.
