All sorts of things could happen there, if only the walls could speak,” said Daniels, as he looked at the original drawings for Starbucks new store in Downtown Disney West Side at Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, Florida.
This is a beautiful project, well conceptualized for the topography of the site and location. The view of the structure from I-95 will be powerful and dramatic. What a great architectural addition to Prince Georges County!

There are miles to go before ground is broken, but plans for the redevelopment of the McMillan Sand Filtration Site took a significant step forward Thursday when plans won the provisional approval of the District’s Historic Preservation Review Board.
The site, at North Capitol Street and Michigan Avenue NW, functioned as a water-filtration plant until the 1980s and has been eyed for redevelopment almost since the day it closed. The most recent effort has been underway since 2006, when a city commission selected a group of developers known as Vision McMillan Partners to begin exploring redevelopment options. Under its current arrangement with the city, VMP is now embarking on the process of preparing the land for development in exchange for the first right to purchase the land once that “entitlement” process is complete.
With 1400 apartments, a strip mall and an office building around a huge parking lot, the Blairs are a suburban relic in the middle of downtown Silver Spring. Over the next 15 to 20 yars, it could become a city in its own right, with new housing, commercial space, and a network of new streets and parks.
The Rockville-based Tower Companies showed their long-term plan for the redevelopment of the 1960’s-era 27-acre complex bounded by Colesville Road, East-West Highway, Blair Mill Road and Eastern Avenue on Wednesday before presenting it to the community that evening at the Silver Spring Civic Building.

After a few years of starts and stops, we just got word the Donatelli Development is ready to get started on a huge new residential project at Benning Road and Minnesota Avenue NE. The metro adjacent development is going to have over 375 units and the good news is they have secured financing to make sure the project can move forward!

Put simply there is no other place on the planet where investors will see greater returns.”
For London, how to deal with the new buildings and modifications made for the Games could be more complicated. Plans for the legacy of the Olympic Park (to be named Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park) were recently unveiled by London mayor Boris Johnson, highlighting how exactly the city hopes to continue to use the park to the benefit of its citizens and not serve as a reminder of wasted resources. It’s a tricky thing to do, when something is so purpose built.
Glad to see this project finally taking-off! It served a wonderful purpose temporarily especially for the Tour de Fat DC Annual Event! It will be interesting to see if this location at the Capitol Riverfront can remain the venue for next years event!
After what seems like years of the old Lumber Shed standing as nothing more than a shell along the Capitol Riverfront in Near Southeast, work is finally underway to transform the old Navy yard building into a glass retail and restaurant pavilion. Once complete, the 30,000 sq-ft. glass pavilion will have five restaurants and the second floor will house some offices for the developer Forest City.
Last night, Martine Combal from the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning gave ANC 4B and interested residents an update on the plans for the massive Walter Reed redevelopment project, to be located on Georgia Avenue between Aspen Street and Fern Street NW map.A quick primer on what is in the works. The expansive plans on the boards feature 3.1 million square feet of development, including 90 townhomes, 1,864 multifamily units and more than 100 homes for homeless veterans. Retail is also planned, including perhaps a Wegman’s, and the site will have two bilingual charter schools one Spanish-English, one Chinese-English and a Howard University ambulatory care center. The new development would also have a number of energy-efficient elements: green roofs, solar panels, cisterns, and a goal of being net-zero by 2030. There could also be some park-like areas and planners are considering building a streetcar to connect the development to a nearby Metro station.
