Japanese architecture firm Jun Aoki & Associates and New York architecture studio Peter Marino collaborated to design the shop.

Its facade is based on the translucent sails of traditional Higaki-Kaisen cargo ships, in reference to the city’s history as an important port.

They filter light into the interiors during the day and create a lantern-like effect at night.

“The purity of the facade is reinforced by the use of metal fretwork motifs at ground-floor level,” said Jun Aoki & Associates.

Inside wooden floors reference to the deck of a ship, along with with wood-clad pillars and metal ceilings “reminiscent of the spirit of a grand yacht embarking on an exciting adventure”.

Across four stories, the shop features clothes and accessories as well as historical objects from the Louis Vuitton Archives and contemporary art from the house’s Objets Nomades collection.

The Future College Bookstore: Leave The Books, Take The Panini | Co.Exist | ideas + impact

Imagine that the campus store you remember from college–the place where you went to buy text books and maybe a school sweatshirt–could be so much more. Now, instead of just a bookstore, it’s a town square/marketplace where students, faculty, and maybe even locals grab lunch, meet friends for coffee or a glass of wine in the evening, plug in for an afternoon of studying, buy an iPad, buy a keyboard, buy a T-shirt, get their laptop fixed, and perhaps buy a book.

Refined, Functional and Open Family Home Design Nestled Between Trees

After moving around for work, living in eight houses over the past ten years, a family with two small children finally decided to settle down. Choosing Mandeville Canyon, a small community in Los Angeles’ Brentwood neighborhood, the family found a 3.14-acre lot sheltering over 200 mature trees and everything was set in motion. They decided to work with Rockefeller Partners Architects in building a home that would not only be cozy and bright, but also open to the expansive views of the city and ocean beyond. The architects remember how their work spoke for itself: “When they learned that three of their favorite houses in west Los Angeles had all been designed by the same architect, and further discovered that this architect had designed but never had a chance to build a house for their Mandeville property’s previous owners, they knew they had found their firm.”

Houzz Tour: Tying Together a Boston Loft

The owners of this loft had been seduced by its sweeping Boston skyline views and vibrant historic South End neighborhood, but its existing built-ins and other features didn’t stand up to the loft’s 18-foot-high ceilings, and the spaces did not make the most of the views. Working with the architects at ZeroEnergy Design, they embarked on extensive renovations to create efficient multipurpose spaces, including a home office, built-in storage, room for guests and a nursery for their first baby, who was on the way. Here’s what they did.

Starbucks Flagship Store opens at Downtown Disney Orlando

It begins with a blank piece of white paper. When Starbucks senior designer David Daniels is challenged with creating a new store, he starts sketching chairs or a table setting and thinks about all the meaningful moments that will happen in the space.“My imagination runs wild, and as I draw I think about how somebody might meet the girl of their dreams there. All sorts of things could happen there, if only the walls could speak,” said Daniels, as he looked at the original drawings for Starbucks new store in Downtown Disney West Side at Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, Florida.
